GIS 3015: Orientation

Hello everyone.

My name is Rob Harriage. I work at a seaplane base in Winter Haven, Florida and I live in Lakeland, Florida. I received my Bachelors degree in Geography from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

I took a couple GIS classes while attending undergrad but never received a certificate. After 5 years as a professional brewer, I felt that I was wasting my analytical talents and a really expensive degree. So I decided to return to academia to become certified in Geographic Information Systems. I am most interested in Sustainability and Population Studies. I love Big-Picture Thinking, Social Sciences, and the Great Outdoors. To me, Geography was my way of becoming a modern-day Polymath.

I’m a Tampa Bay Lightning fan. I like hockey because of the speed, the physics, and the fights. I have driven through all 48 continental states, as well as France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Italy, and Monaco. In 2010, I studied abroad India and Bhutan. I am going back to Central Europe again this May. Finally, I have had the pleasure of meeting the, now former, Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon of the United Nations.

I am the proud owner of a pair of rambunctious Huskies.
